Electric Truck to debut at the Itzulia Basque Country, a first for the UCI World Tour

  • Itzulia and Echemar are moving closer towards achieving sustainability 

The Itzulia Basque Country is set to witness a pioneering event, a significant milestone towards achieving sustainability in professional cycling: for the first time, an electric truck will be used at a UCI World Tour race. This unprecedented event reflects the growing commitment to reducing emissions and the drive towards a cleaner, greener future in elite sports cycling. 

Transportes Echemar from Guipuzcoa will provide logistical support for the Itzulia with several vehicles, including its Mercedes E-Atros 300 truck. A 100% electric truck with 0 Emissions. “We have to do our bit by supporting sport and CO2 reduction”, stated Echemar. 

In recent years Itzulia has moved towards sustainability, largely thanks to its sponsors and suppliers. “Now we are the first World Tour race to use a 100% electric truck to transfer the race infrastructure”. The organisers added, “A first big step towards decarbonisation and making cycling more sustainable”.
