Yamaha will be a part of the 60th edition of the Itzulia. The Itzulia will feature the motorcycle brand as its Official Sponsor and Official Motorcycle of the race. The six-day race will feature two of Yamaha’s Sport Touring models, which will tour the roads of the Basque Country and support the cyclists.
Having completed the Volta, the Yamaha motorcycles will travel to Bilbao to start a race replete with cycling stars, such as the winners of the three Grand Tours in 2020: Tao Geoghegan Hart (Giro), Tadej Pogačar (Tour) and Primož Roglič (Vuelta).
This edition will start with an individual time trial in Bilbao. Day two will start in Zalla and run through Bizkaia, almost touching Cantabria and Castilla León and finish in Sestao. Day three will feature the first altitude finish in Ermualde (Laudio), which could make all the difference in the general classification. The mountain stage is followed by the longest stage of the race, departing from Vitoria-Gasteiz and finishing in the town of Hondarribia. On day five the cyclists would be advised to save their strength for the final day of the race because, as the organisers have pointed out, “we’ve saved the hardest until last”. The sixth and final stage between Ondarroa and Arrate (Eibar) will pass through 7 scoring mountain passes over just 111.9 km and will decide who will win the race and have the privilege of raising their arms in Arrate, an iconic location for the Itzulia.
To support the Itzulia, Yamaha has made available the same fleet of motorcycles that worked at the Volta Catalunya, consisting of the Yamaha NIKEN and the TRACER 7. The two Sport Touring bikes combined perfectly at the Volta and will be essential tools at this year’s Itzulia, where every day will pose a new challenge for the motorcycles in the changing Basque weather.
